Our History

The Greek American Veterans Association was formally organized on May 16, 1946. For decades they gathered at 228 Worthen Street, a building they purchased in 1959. The post actively preserved the memory of local Greek-American service members through exhibits, memorials, and community events, including a major photo exhibit in 2006 that honored veterans from the Balkan Wars through the Gulf Wars.

The post was a cornerstone of the Greek community in the Acre neighborhood. Members worked closely with the Hellenic Culture Society and Lowell Hellenic Heritage Association to document and celebrate their shared heritage. They hosted events, supported veterans’ families, and ensured that the sacrifices of Greek-American soldiers from Lowell would never be forgotten.
